The Top 5 Foods that (May) Cause Cancer
The Top 5 Foods that (May) Cause Cancer
Somewhere in the back of your mind, you probably already knew that eating hot dogs wasn’t all that good for you. Maybe it’s because in the 3rd grade, the hot rumor was ‘one of the main ingredients in hot dogs is pureed worms!’
Truth be told, though, sodium erythorbate is not a fancy word for earthworms; it’s a preservative made from sugar. So no, that package of hot dogs does not contain pureed worms. It contains something much more sinister: sodium nitrite, one of the top cancer causing food ingredients for humans. Experts recommend that you eat no more than 12 hot dogs per month. Avoid them all together if you are in a high risk group for cancer. Ditto for bacon and other highly processed meats. Look at the label ... if sodium nitrite is one of the ingredients, then watch how much of this food you eat.
You probably already knew about hot dogs ... but what about donuts? Did you know that Reader’s Digest labeled doughnuts a “disastrous” breakfast food? With their potent mix of sugar, white flour, hydrogenated oils and acrylamides, “they're one of the worst cancer foods you can possibly eat”, according to Mike Adams, a natural health author.
There’s no question that this article, posted on NaturalNews.com, is a bit controversial. Acrylamides, for example, are under debate about whether they actually cause cancer in humans. Acrylamide is a chemical that is formed when certain starchy foods (like potatoes and flour) are heated at high temperatures. It is also formed on coffee beans as they are roasted. An article on Bupa’s website (bupa.co.uk), dated 2005, firmly states that acrylamides have been cleared of possible causes of most human cancers, including breast cancer, and cites earlier research that shows it is not a factor in contributing to kidney, bladder, or bowel cancers. Rats and mice are not so lucky - numerous cancers develop when they are given high doses of acrylamides.
Interestingly enough, Bupa states that overexposure to acrylamides can cause nerve damage and can cause hallucinations and altered behavior. But the key word is overexposure and the study was for workers exposed to this chemical on a concentrated and regular basis.
So what other foods were on Mike Adam’s list of the top five cancer causing foods .... what is this .... no! Cookies? Not cookies! Give me a minute to recover .... I’ll let you decide for yourself.
If you are brave enough, here is the link to Mike Adam’s article: The Top 5 Cancer-Causing Foods
and to gain some comfort (and controversy) here is Bupa’s link: Health News - Fried Food Chemical is Not a Cancer Risk

If you want to know what you SHOULD eat for cancer prevention, Dr. Servan-Schrieber has written a book: ANTICANCER, A NEW WAY OF LIFE published in September 2008.

And here’s another highly rated book: Eat To Beat Cancer: A Research Scientist Explains How You and Your Family Can Avoid Up to 90% of All Cancers Eat to Beat Cancer: A Research Scientist Explains How You and Your Family Can Avoid up to 90% of All Cancers
Even Betty Crocker has a book for you, especially if you are already seeking your triumph over cancer and undergoing cancer treatment. It even has a pretty and upbeat cover: Betty Crocker's Living with Cancer Cookbook: Easy Recipes and Tips through Treatment and Beyond
Now, excuse me, I’m going to grab a chocolate chip cookie and ponder this whole issue. I’ll skip the doughnuts for now.

Nooo! Not the donuts!
But it makes sense...deep fried dough covered in sugar. There was a call for banning hotdogs at school altogether confirming sodium nitrite as a huge problem. If I eat a donut I know for a fact I get really pissy about an hour later from the sugar crash so donuts are banned in my house. I think people are trending back to homemade, wholesome food that makes you feel good when you eat it. This was good info!
Peace,

If you expect to get cancer, you will
I tend to stay away from such lists because I understand that, under the Law of Attraction, I will get what I expect. If I fear certain foods because they "might" give me cancer, then I am telling the Universe that I "want" cancer because I am eating them.
In a larger sense, do you ever wonder why some people have normal cholesterol and triglyceride levels while still eating bacon and fried eggs for breakfast, yet others eat rabbit food and "require" statin drugs to keep those levels in check?
I'm not saying that wolfing down a box of Dunkin' Donuts finest is a healthy way to start the day, but there are so many other factors in play that determine health and cancer that food should be way down on the list. It's all about attitude and expectations.
A person with a healthy attitude and outlook on life will gravitate towards what is healthy to drink and ingest, which is why I don't listen to the "experts" tell me which food this week is cancer-causing and instead trust my intuition.

Very Powerful Statement, jdubhub
I am also a strong believer in the Law of Attraction and agree that developing a fear of certain foods can eventually create unwanted results.
You said it well: "A person with a healthy attitude and outlook on life will gravitate towards what is healthy to drink and ingest" So true.
When I worked on this article, it was with a desire to educate and help others make good choices and enhance their personal health. I also am a bit of a foodie and enjoy cooking and baking, so food related articles naturally interest me. If we all approach foods with the thought of vibrant good health and nutrition, it could really make a difference.
Your comment rings true - I found that I was not really all that interested in eating most of the foods on this list, at least until I got to the cookies... geez, I LOVE to bake cookies. I don't think I'll stop just because they are on this list, though.
Peace and good health to you,
Patti

Exactly. DIY is always the best way to go.
I like that you referred to making your own cookies. DIY food preparation is always the best way to go for optimum health, if you think about all the chemicals that are added to food to preserve them during transport and storage.
This year, I've made it a priority to learn how to can vegetables and fruit (I learned how to make a delicious red pepper jelly just this month) and I am taking lessons from my wife's grandmother on how to bake different foods from scratch. Even my wife's uncle and his wife are teaching me all about gardening and which things grow best in this county, etc. I will be planting my own garden this coming Spring to augment my family's meals and will use heritage seeds to do so (instead of hybrids).
Kind Regards,
Jim

Great Info
Unfortunately as developed countries are moving away from processed food and going for DIY, developing countries are gradually moving towards packaged food spurred by Ads and lifestyle changes. This kind of information is very necessary.

Consider this...
Here's something to consider. I'm currently undergoing chemo treatment for breast cancer. I am not allowed to eat/consume many, if any antioxidant foods and supplements because they will conflict with my chemo treatment and radiation.
I've done extensive research on this topic and plan to implement a dietary change when I finish my therapies. But a body really does wonder why these healthful foods aren't pushed on cancer patients more when there is clearly such an incredible benefit to them.
Just my 2 cents...

Say It Isn't So
Not cookies. That can't be right. Those chocolate chip cookies are sooooo good. Tasting that is. Apparently not so good for the body. Noooooooo!
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not french fries! :(
How Terrible
Oh well. I was probably going to die early in life anyway. Most likely of brain cancer or something. It is a genetic factor in my family. Why fight it.
