1 - CTR and CPM

When you log into your Google Adsense account you will see five columns:

• Page Impressions
• Clicks
• CTR
• CPM
• Earnings

Page Impressions, Clicks and Earnings are pretty self explanatory, but what are CTR and CPM?

CTR is your click through rate or the percentage of Adsense clicks your post received divided by the number of times it was read. CPM is your estimated earning per thousand impressions. Basically, these numbers show you how much you would earn for every thousand reads you receive. Both of these numbers can be used to give you a better idea what type of content earns you more money. Before you can do that you need to track the urls of your Xomblurbs and Xombytes.

2 - Tracking URLs In Adsense

Within Adsense, you have the ability to track the earnings of every post you make on Xomba. First, copy the URL of your Xombyte or Xomblurb.

Example: http://www.xomba.com/startling_facts_of_the_environment

Then log into your Google Adsense account. Below the tabs at the top of the page click on the link titled "Advanced Reports". Next click on the link titled "Manage Channels". On this page you should see two links, "Custom Channels" and "URL Channels." Click on "URL Channels" and then click the "Add URL Channels" link. An input box should appear; this is where you paste the URL of you Xombytes and Xomblurbs.

First - Click Advanced Reports

Second - Click Managed Channels

Third - Click Add Url Channels

Once you input the URL and click the Add Channels button below the box, Adsense will now track the earnings of this URL. This will let you know how much each post earns you and which posts have a higher CTR and CPM. All of this information is very useful in determining which types of content you will have the most success with on Xomba.

Please note you can track only 200 URLs through Google Adsense.

3 - Linking Your Profile Page

Your profile page is the central location of everything you do on Xomba. It lets readers know who you are and what you have written. We highly recommended that you include a link to your user profile on everything you write on Xomba. All you have to do is copy the URL of your profile page and paste it at the end of all of your Xombytes and Xomblurbs. This will help bring readers back to your user page and let them see the other things you have written.

4 - Google Keyword Tool

The Google Keyword Tool allows you to input a keyword and see how often that keyword is being searched for and how much advertiser competition there is for that keyword. The goal here is to find a topic to write about on Xomba that has a high search volume and a high level of advertiser competition. The higher the search volume, the more likely people will read your post. The higher the level of advertising competition, the more each click will pay in Adsense.

5 - Google Trends and Yahoo Buzz

Google Trends and Yahoo Buzz are tools that you can use to find out what people are searching for at any given time. Both of these websites update hourly with a ranking on the hottest search keywords at that time. Lots of Xomba users have had success writing about the things that appear on these websites. You can attract a large audience quickly because most of the keywords that appear don't have a lot of things already written about them online. The downside to writing about the hot trends is that these topics will usually be short lived. You might get lots of readers today, but you aren't likely to get any in the future because the trend will have passed.

6 - Social Bookmarking Sites

Social Bookmarking sites are websites that allow users to upload links to articles or websites that they want to share with their community. Submitting links to your Xombytes can be a quick and easy way to help promote your writing on the internet. Some popular social bookmarking sites include: Reddit, StumbleUpon, Fark, Sk*rt and Furl. Fortunately, Xomba has made social bookmarking easy for its users by placing a bookmark tool at the end of every Xombyte. Once you have an account with a social bookmarking website, all you have to do is use the tool at the bottom of your Xombyte to send a link to the site you have selected. It's a very easy and effective way to quickly draw readers to your Xombytes.
