How to Convert Your CDs into a Digital Music File
How to Convert Your CDs into a Digital Music File
There are two ways we can rip CDs or in other words, turn songs from your favorite CDs into WAV (Windows) or AIFF (Mac). The first method is to use Microsoft Windows Media Player 10. I actually find this method easier than the other. To rip your cd with Microsoft Windows Media Player 10, just complete the following instructions:
1. Open the Microsoft Windows Media Player 10 on your computer.
2. Insert a CD and click “rip”.
3. Choose the songs you would like to rip and select “rip music.”
4. At this point, the program will ask whether you want to adjust the current format settings or keep them. You will be offered choices to change the format, sound quality and location of your ripped music files, or you can keep the default settings. (There’s no need to do this right away; you can always come back and change the settings later.)
5. Click “OK”, and your music will be ripped and saved to the Windows Media Player Library.
The other method, which I find a bit more complicated, is to use iTunes.
1. Open iTunes and go to the Edit > Preferences menu.
2. Click “Advance.”
3. Choose the “importing” sub-tab in the Advance menu.
4. Go to “Import Using” and click “MP3 Encoder.”
5. Go to the setting menu and choose the format and sound quality you want.
6. Insert a CD into your computer.
7. iTunes will scan the CD and display the list of audio tracks on the CD.
8. Select the songs you want to rip.
9. Click “Import CD.”
10. When the ripping process is completed, the songs will be saved in the iTunes Library.
