Tips While Upgrading Your Computer

Upgrading your computer is a tricky issue. You can spent huge money getting the hardware and software upgrades and yet get a marginal improvement in performance. Or you can spend minimal amount on hardware but can turn your computer into a blazing performer. Most of the confusion arises while deciding whether to get minimalistic upgrades or go the whole hog.
Here are some tips that will help you in making your upgrading decisions easier:
- Application and Technology
Keep in mind the application you are going to work on predominantly and the technology required to do get your job done efficiently. In other words what is the main use of your computer. No point in going for overkill. Only thereafter consider the brands, models and its price. - Present Configuration
Be smart to evaluate your computer's present configuration to check for maximum support capabilities and compatibility. Do this prior to purchasing the hardware. No point in buying DDR RAM or RDRAM when the motherboard of your PC can only support SD RAM or getting SATA hard disk drives when ATA drive is all that your computer is upgradable to. - RAM it Up
Generally RAM is the first and most common choke point for PC performance. So when upgrading your RAM go in for the highest possible upgrade. - Use Economic Sense
If a few hundred bucks is all that stands between a 17 inch and 15 inch TFT monitor then do not give in to the temptation of being frugal. Be prudent. Go for the 17 inch TFT monitor. Ditto for other items like a plain ball mouse versus an optical mouse. - See the Bigger Picture
No here I do not mean getting a bigger monitor (though you will see a bigger picture if you do). Think long term. You will spend more money if you go in for incremental upgrades. So upgrade all components all at once and budget permitting to their fullest capacities.

If you keep these tips in mind while upgrading your computer you will have additional functionality and performance at optimum price.

how relevant.
You make relevant points here. I brought DDR RAM for my computer upgrading and realised it was not compatible for such a big jump.
PC Terminology
PC terminology is greek and latin for me. Yet that was a nice brief.
