75th Anniversary of End Of Prohibition In US
05 Dec 2008 would be the 75th anniversary of the end of Prohibition in the US. The prohibition, Noble Experiment, which was implemented in 1920 was lifted in 1933 because of economic reasons. Read more at the link below

I'll drink to that!
While the people who backed and ratified the 18th Amendment may have been well-meaning, Prohibition created more problems than it solved. Gangsters in organized crime and a new layer of federal bureaucracy were but two of the unintended consequences of a small segment of American society trying to force its own morality on the American people.
If only every law that was proposed could be previewed for its long-term effects, the world would be a better place.

Prohibition = Challenge
Even for well meaning people a forced action, prohibition becomes a challenge to their freedom to choose and hence is more often than not, counter-productive. We still have Gujarat where prohibition is in force. But all the Gujarati people i know are no strangers to drinking.
Anyway glad it's over some 75 years back. Enjoy the holidays, stay in high spirits. Cheers!
