$700 Billion? New Stimulus Package Idea: $1 Million Dollars to Every American Taxpayer

This $700 billion dollar bail-out; I say no. Let them bastards crawl. We, as the American taxpayer, the same people who have been spit on, refused money to better ourselves, have had our credit ruined for not paying a check charge, had our homes foreclosed, just to name a few things, those high and mighty financial people, and institutions, they all need to jump out of high rise windows, loose all of the ill-got wealth, the wealth they made while breaking others' backs, and crawl like the worms they are.

.Lately, bail-out, has been a word to replace “consequences.” I assume we have two standards in America. If you're an individual taxpayer who bails you out if you make bad financial decisions?
The answer is no body. If your house has gone into foreclosure, and you've lost it, who bails you out?
The answer is no body. If your bank account becomes overdrawn, and remains overdrawn for five days, most banks initiate a charge of $7 to $10 per day for having a negative balance, and if your sick, or have become disabled, can't take care of your negative balance, thus, the bank holds your account open for 60 days, and, possibly pumps the money owned them up to over $600, who bails you out? The answer is no body. No body will help the individual taxpayer. But, every time there appears big problems, who gets hit for aid-money? The American tax payer.

Screw these bastards. And I do not agree with Barack Obama or John McCain. $700,000,000,000!!

To put the amount in better perspective, how about this “stimulus package,” the government send each and every American taxpayer one-million dollars ($1,000,000). If everyone got a million-dollars, our economy would rebound. And, new investment would begin, investments deposited in solid financial institutions. There would be no weak or failed institutions because we got the money instead of them, thus, they failed and disappeared.

Anyway, I wanted to, at least voice my unhappiness as an American taxpayer, logical or not.

Sounds like fun..

But then you'd soon be having conversations like "Hey Joe, my wife wanted me to pick up a loaf of bread on the way home, but I don't have any small bills..you got $100 on ya'?" and "Here you go sir, 3 boxes of Thin Mints and one box of Samoas. That'll be $6,000..Thanks for supporting the Girl Scouts of America!"

Bailout

The problem with making the financial companies "crawl" is that a lot of regular people are going to be crawling along with them.

These companies make or insure many of the loans that businesses, including many small and mom-and-pop businesses, use to get funding to operate on a daily business. If those big financial companies fail and order is not restored to the credit business, all kinds of businesses are going to run short of money, be forced to lay off employees, and maybe go out of business.

It's not just the fat cats who will be hurt if some kind of package isn't passed. I don't have any sympathy for the greedy execs who got us into this mess... or for the greedy homeowners who bought more house than they could afford, or decided that rising home prices made "flipping houses" a worthwhile hobby (or career).

But simply letting these big companies fail is going to cause a huge amount of distress for countless innocent smaller business owners... and their workers.

I would rather have direct payments to the mom and pops

I would rather have direct payments to the mom and pops than a bailout that can end up costing the American taxpayer--including those mom and pops--up to 5 or 6 TRILLION dollars. That estimate may seem high, but it is estimated by some economists because there are no hard numbers put out by Paulson and Bernake as to how much this could end up costing.

Bailout cost

Other economists are suggesting the cost could be *less* than $700 billion, because the government may be able to sell off the assets at a higher price than they're paying when/if the market recovers.

There was also a lot of complaining about the cost of the savings & loan rescue program a couple of decades back, but I was surprised to hear recently that the government actually ended up *making* money eventually, because it was able to sell off the assets for more than the govt. paid for them.

Recently I heard Paulson saying something about looking at each institution on a case-by-case basis, which makes more sense to me than one huge package. Look at each institution and prioritize buying/funding each according to how much impact its failure would have on the overall economy.

jdubhub's picture

There are are the same financial types, however...

I know Paulson wasn't there for Bush's first term, but Bush and many of the financial types in Congress were, and these are the same people who sold the Iraq War at a cost of "only" $50 billion, which is why I don't trust them when they name a dollar amount. History is against the government being able to save the economy when it has gotten to this point and pumping emergency money into it with no oversight or controls is only delaying the inevitable.

USA up and down

If Wall Street goes up, the whole world goes up... sometimes without reason.
USA's power!:-)

That may change ..

someday if we aren't careful..the US crisis affects everyone..but, If this situation isn't dealt with and the system fixed so that we don't see another meltdown like this, that could change. The US has bounced back before, but not after some seriously hard times and in today's world there are a few countries that have some significantly higher financial power than they did then..

While this article is a bit unreasonable...

It would be great if the American Taxpayer got the bailout instead of the already rich.

Then we could decide what was of value. If only half of us used the money to pay off debt such as houses and cars, the economy would instantly rebound.

Yea, the FED could have thown everybody a bone -- $10,000??

We should have all received a stimulus package:

The Banks -- $700,000,000,000

The Taxpayers -- $10,000 each.

Hey, something for the taxpayer would have been the right thing to do...

Think of it this way: maybe you'll go out hunting for a lost sheep if you only have 100; but you won't miss it much if you have 100,000,000,000.

The insurance companies who took taxpayers' money are now WORKING -FOR- THE TAXPAYERS.

Hmmm

I believe that the majority of taxpayers are homeowners, people with a lot of debt they can barely pay, etc. To assume that the money would not be used properly is wrong for all types of reasons. Whether taxpayers pay off a mortgage(which most will) or if they go to Macy's or GM the money is still being used the way that government intended. Now if they were to put stipulations on the money to ensure that all taxpayers do the right thing, and follow-up on that at the end of the year by presenting receipts, etc. This could actually work.

I can't believe some of the things that I've been reading. It seems as if the majority of folks who are flat broke, robbing Peter to pay Paul would rather have the government give billions of dollars to the rich, and no change being made in the economy. All this talk about infrastructure..FOR WHO? There will still be people out there who are job less regardless of how many you think you'll be creating because the majority of those construction companies are privately owned and they hire family members and friends; or otherwise go through a temp agency to pay less for more work which doesn't guarantee the worker anything. Give the money to the people and I guarantee you we'll get it back into the economy.

Give the money to "We, the People," and screw Detroit & Banks

YEH! For over 30 years, OVER THIRTY YEARS, the automakers in Detroit have worked to NOT increase gas mileage and LOWER pollutant output. There representing unions have aimed for the same.

They have never done anything, which would aid/better our country, and/or, we, the people.

All they have ever worried about is how to stuff more money in their pockets. Detroit automakers are has-been entities from a gone century. They chose not-to-change, and the world changed any way. So, I support out-with-the-old (GM, Ford, Chrysler), and in with the new - 21st Century based thinking.

And those thieving banks, they need to fail too. They have always sucked, and now they're sucking even more money out of we, the people.

Those in Congress who continue to vote against "we, the people, need to be recalled and removed from office. This money should have been delegated to the American people. You remember who put the money in the coffers, in the first place?

WE, THE PEOPLE!

@josephehoward-spe.--The Million Butterflies Sail the Navy Barge

Again, ONE DOES NOT 'MAKE' OR 'EARN' MONEY! Money is the life-blood of the system, and--like life blood--the people who use it (cells of the body's organs) get it by 'demonstrating a lack ... doing something that's WORTH money and "showing empty space where that worth should have been manifest" (or "opening the empty coffer").'

If the American people were walking around with FULL coffers for providing ABSOLUTELY NO WORTH, then the American work-ethic would die! (e.g. Why be a mechanic for '$20-an-hour' when you can get a million for just sitting there and whining?)

You, in some twisted way, believe your up on some pulpit and preaching to the lesser, when, in fact, you are the lesser.

It's apparent you have no faith. No faith in anything, but, yourself. No faith, is your loss, not ours. We have faith, and that faith will empower our people to step up to CHANGE!

You're the one whose whining. Leave the real faith to the American people.

Have a nice day, and, someday, maybe you'll get faith too.
